Yeah lawns, computer help, websites. Why do most people get less entrepreneurial as they grow up?
As a kid back in Va, I sold crabs as a during the summer. It was a pretty sweet deal – I’d get fish heads from the butcher for free and set a string of traps in the river behind my house. Zero overhead and near-zero effort. Mind you, this wasn’t “Deadliest Catch” or anything.
I also would find used golf balls in the creeks and sell them to people driving by. What’s funny is we didn’t know the difference between the marked ones and the unmarked ones, and people would drive by and ask us if we had any unmarked ones. It was funny because we’d sell them at the same price.
I would make crafts like teddy bear magnets, etc., and paint decorative shelves. My mom would take them to work and sell them to her co-workers for me. Was pretty lucrative for a 9 year old.
The venerable paper route. It was a simpler time.
Yeah I totally collected golf balls and washed them and then sold them back to the people who probably lost them in the first place. My grandpa used to give me a penny for every pine cone I picked up.
Paper route. Rain or shine. $20 a week.
Thanks to Ross for making me feel *old* that he did web sites to make money as a kid. There weren’t any web sites until I was done with college, and let me tell you, I am not that old.
Babysitting. Because I’m a girl. We didn’t mow lawns.
