Ever try peanut butter on your hamburger?

It isn’t helping that I’m starving as I write this… So I was listening to a few minutes of NPR’s show about food. It’s called The Splendid Table.

What was interesting was they were talking about hamburgers and this one place in Missouri apparently sells hamburgers with peanut butter on them. Here’s what it looks like:

Also check out www.hamburgeramerica.com (scroll down the page to see the other hamburgers). The site is ugly but the hamburgers look great!

Have you ever tried a hamburger with melted peanut butter? It sounds bad at first, but now I’m interested to try it. Perhaps without ketchup. Would you try it?

  1. So now we know Tommy wouldn’t try it. Anyone else brave enough? If anybody “bites” we could cook one and I’ll bring the peanut butter. Should I “get smoothe?” Anybody THAT hungry?

  2. I’ve asked about 10 people today if they would eat a hamburger with melted peanut butter on it and so far nobody thinks that sounds good.

When I tell them that there’s a company that has been selling them for 47 years they usually sound a little bit more interested. Not enough to try it though.

  3. Hmm. I’m afraid that I wouldn’t have enough guts to bite into one. Peanut butter goes best on bread, with honey or jam on the top.
    Mmm…. that sounds good.

  4. if it was a veggie burger would that make a difference, a peanut is almost a vegetable

  5. I have been eating peanut butter on my hamburgers for over 50 years . It is great . That is all I put on it, burger, peanut butter and bun..

  6. I actually tried one at a bar in Colorado. It had peanut butter, lettuce, tomato, bacon and pepper jack cheese. As strange as it sounds, it was actually really good. You don’t really taste the peanut butter by itself, it just adds another layer of texture and flavor. Be adventerous and try it!

  7. soooooo good eat them all the time a resturant in san diego have them on the menu (corvette diner) yum yum!!!!

  8. I tried the PB burger at a bar and grill in Missouri (not Sedalia). It is similar to the one described from Colorado with bacon and pepperjack. It was delicious and I would have another anytime.

  9. I was talking to a customer today that told me about them. I was a little skeptical at first but now I am interested. I am having dinner with my parents tongiht and we are all going to at least try a bite with some PB smudged on there!!

  10. THANK GOODNESS I FOUND THIS!
I tried a peanut butter burger about a year ago, and forgot where it was. This morning I found myself in the center of the world’s most amazing craving for one, but wouldn’t remember the other ingredients on it that made it so good. When I found this, I realized that it was the Corvette Diner where I tried it. They serve it with peanut butter, slab cut bacon, lettuce and mayo and a guarantee that you will love it or your money back.

After the first bite, I never considered returning it. One of the best burgers I ever ate. Since I don’t eat a whole lot of red meat, I had forgotten about it, until I found myself, at 8 weeks pregnant, craving some BEEF!

I wholeheartedly recommend that everyone try this, and that recommendation is from someone who doesn’t love a lot of red meat OR peanut butter!

  11. About to grill burgers on a cool Saturday afternoon. We are going to try them- will let you know how it goes!

  12. I know this post is really old, but I have to comment. A buddy in college used to always put peanut butter on his hamburgers in the cafeteria. I thought he was crazy until he told me about this place. I tried one myself and like it. I do this a few times a year now.

  13. It is excellent! I am actually making peanut butter burgers tonight! It sounds kind of strange at first but it is really good. I first tried a PB burger at a restaurant and my boyfriend looked at me like I was crazy the whole time I ate the burger. I loved the taste so much, I even asked for an extra side of PB. I put provolone cheese and bacon on mine!

  14. Peanut butter hamburger must be an acquired taste. But only if you’re from the Twilight Zone!

My point being that the first time I ever heard about this was from the TZ Movie, when the kid with powers likes PB hamburgers, so all the poor people trapped in the house with him have to like it too.

  15. There are myriad very tasty combinations of peanut butter that people turn up their noses at without a thought of actually trying them. Like peanut butter & sweet pickle relish sandwiches (or substitute bread & butter pickle chips for the relish) — delicious! My brother and I seem to be the only ones willing to eat them — and we love them. — I just tried a burger with just PB on it and found it edible but not exciting. But layered with other items like bacon, pepperjack, lettuce and tomato — it’s probably delicious too.

  16. I grew up eating PB on burgers.. and turkey sandwiches. It adds a lovely dimension to it.. PB is wasted on just PBandJ. I have also made peanut butter soup. It is awesome with meats and savory items. mmmmmmm.

  17. i ate at the one in sedalia and it is great. every time i go back there i always have to stop in a get at least one. i tried to make at home, but its not the same.

  18. A friend of mine turned me on to pb on a burger a few months ago and now I’m hooked! Mayo, mustard (or A-1) cheese, lettuce, onion and peanut butter! YUM We are having them tonight.

  19. About 15 years ago, some friends tried to get me to at least taste a pb hamburger. “Ugh” was the first thought that came to mind. This went on for YEARS, until I finally bit the “burger” and tried it…and it was WONDERFUL. For some 10 years now, I won’t have a hamburger any other way, and for the record, EACH person I share it with has the SAME negative reaction-until they try it and become instant converts! I have NEVER seen anyone dislike it, and for some 10 years, that’s a lot of folks. I make mine sorta simple: Just lots of lettuce, some cheese, a little ketchup and a pickle, and LOTS of crunchy peanut butter. Two words: HEA-VEN.

  20. I have tried this after hearing about it on the “Travel Channel”. It is rather tasty if you like peanutbutter. Make sure you toast the bun and add a little mayo on top. Sounds repulsive, but is pretty tasty.
