I almost considered calling this “the other Italian drink” because coffee — at least American coffee trends — tend to have their roots in Italy.
Well, my new favorite drink when I’m not having coffee is the Italian soda. Mmmm… they’re really good. See the cool photo (that one actually doesn’t have half and half which adds quite a bit to the flavor so just keep that in mind).
Here’s how I make mine:
- Crushed ice
- Half-cup of milk or half and half (sometimes I use both)
- Seltzer Water
- Whipped Cream
- Flavoring (get the Torani vanilla flavor for best results)
If anything, the Italian soda is a nice substitute when you’ve had too much coffee and you need to “clear your pallet” and it is generally less-sweet than a soda.

Well, I’m italian and I live in Italy, but I’ve never heard of an ‘Italian Soda’.
However it seems very tasty 🙂
Now that sounds like a great drink! I will have to try that as soon as I can. Thanks for the recipe.
Now that’s funny. It was probably some marketing idea “hey let’s call it some fancy name so it sounds foreign!”
“Ok! How about Norway?”
“Hmm… Italy?”
Hmm, I’m Italian as well and have never heard of an Italian soda. Sounds good though.
I lived in Italy and never had a drink like that! I think it’s an American invention.
Italian soda would be stuff like Chinotto. Now that stuff will put hair on your chest!

Alright, creme soda — now were in familiar territory.
Creme soda rocks.
This is sure an interesting discussion. It really brings to light how product naming has an effect on perceptions.
One reason I didn’t put any quantities in the recipe was because everybody makes this in different ways.
“Pour to taste” would be how I would put it.
