Josh (one of our contract developers) just told me about FCKeditor, which is a rich text editor for online forms. It’s free / open source and you can see a demo on the site.

Another good one of these is htmlArea.
The one downside to all of these online text editors is that they all require Internet Explorer on Windows. htmlArea 3.0 has tentative support for Mozilla, but that’s pretty unusual–even among the non-free offerings. We investigated all of this for our CMS implementation and I found it quite troubling.
There is the Flash RTE component that was included with one of the MM dev kits… we tried to use it at one point but ran into problems and it never materialized as a solution for that particular project. It’s the only all-browser compatible text editor I know of because it only requires flash support.
