Naysayers

One thing I’ve found true in business is that there are a lot of naysayers. People who don’t think it can be done, people who are afraid of taking risks, and people who talk a lot but don’t make stuff.

I’m not sure if any of you follow Seth Godin’s weblog, but he had a good post called Top ways to defend the status quo. In it, he gives us 17 ways people shoot down good ideas. They’re worth thinking about.

Next time someone suggests an idea you think is silly, instead of responding with one of those answers, consider asking more questions.

  1. I just wanted to say thanks for linking to that article. I’ve definitely heard all those line that Godin listed in his post a time or two over the years. There will always be naysayers out there; you’ve just got to have answers ready for their objections!
