Can anybody comment on the reasoning behind that third asymmetrical circle? I always saw the old logo as a representation of a partnership between company and consumer. Now it seems like one of the sides is trying to take over the other, and I doubt it’s the consumer side winning the fight. Not a very good image to be presenting when dealing with money.
Goodness. The old logo wasn’t pretty but was recognisable everywhere and worked just fine. The new one really is awful!
Though they are both ugly, the first one seems more appealing. The new one is overcomplicated, how would it reproduce on a variety of mediums, in particular the cards themselves. Definately prefer the old one.
Dear LORD is that a bad redesign… It looks like it got smeared.
Why mess with a perfectly recognizable logo?
Just leave well enough alone. Why re-design at all?

My first thought is that this is designed for security and difficulty of reproduction. It may be ugly in print, but I’ll bet it’ll make for a cool hologram.
hahahaahah… is this real?!
my gosh, talk about taking a perfectly good logo, and trashing it.
let me guess, it’s the same design company that did that latest baskin robbins logo… 😉
@Evan: wouldn’t that be a hoot!
They say the three circles of this corporate signature are for the “three-tiered business model as a franchisor, processor and advisor.” Eh? The middle “circle” looks like a magnifying glass off center. Is that the processor? Advisor? I dunno.
they could have gotten a better icon for 165.00 at designoutpost.com. Hell, thats what i did.
How many redesigns must they go through before they realize the best version is just the two circles naturally overlayed… no friggin’ magnifying glass, no 80’s jigsaw puzzle effect, just the circles and the type from the new logo together.
It looks like they put a condom on top of their logo!
Fortunately, the new logo is for Mastercard Worldwide, the parent company of Mastercard International. The old logo will still appear on credit cards and in their advertising.
