Googles mapping system

I’ve been futzing on Google trying to get through my Friday doing as little as possible so I can get my last bit of relaxing in before the weekend, when I ran across maps.google.com. I haven’t seen/heard much about it, but I have been under a rock latley so keep that in mind. It’s a pretty impressive system IMO. Works fast, you can actually read the street names, and the visuals aren’t imposing.

Fantasy Interactive

Amazing use of Flash over at F.I. The design is “ok”, but what strikes me is the way they handled their case studies. Each one is like a small short-film, bringing you into the project both from the clients end and F.I.’s. First time I have seen a design company publish something about themselves in this way, and it definitley works. I haven’t had time to look at them all, but the one that grabbed me the most is their “Road Runner” case study. Oh, and in case you don’t realize…you’ll need sound on. (Tip: you can adjust the quality of the streaming video in the top bar of the stage where the case study plays.)

After you are done, you’ll want to go see all the cool content delivery things they did at Road Runner’s site. Unfortunatly, only members can access the really cool features :(…sorry.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye….

Mozilla has just release the 1.0 milestone release for Firefox. Just figured I’d be the advocate considering it is my browser option of choice for the PC. The site is REEEEAAAAALY slow due to the amount of traffic being generated from all the users, just be wary 😉

Enjoy,

…Oh yes, if your having trouble accessing the site, and just want to download it, ZDNET offers direct access. You can probably search CNET, etc for other download links as well.

Bring on the Tables

Something that often seems to confuse people that are new to CSS-based layouts is the use of tables. I’ve seen plenty of cases where people interpret “avoid using tables for layout” as “don’t use tables at all”. It’s important to remember that tables are still perfectly fine to use – if used correctly.

…A great article that provides an in-depth study on the intended use of tables in web development.
