I use Outlook, and usually when I use FTP its because the file is too big for me to attach to my email. I started using new ftp utility called OutDisk. It integrates FTP into Outlook, and routes my big attachments to a web host via FTP. Then it inserts a http link into my email for download. I like it because its really simple (like me) and it keeps my emails from bouncing. No more cutting and pasting urls into my emails, and best of all, no more bounced emails. Interarchy (MacOS X). Whenever I need a serious application to transfer files (FTP, secure FTP, WebDAV, http…) that’s the one I use. It also comes with very useful traffic monitoring tools that come handy when you need to troubleshoot something.

FireFTP. It’s just a tiny Firefox extension, really easy to setup and use, it can do everything I need to, and it’s free.

Transmit. Open any file in any application and reupload on save. I never thought I would ever edit a psd file live over ftp before.

Fetch. Free for students. People always put down Fetch (apparently the most widely-used FTP client for OS X) when they’re touting Transmit – which I’m sure is awesome – but I’ve never really understood how one client can be astoundingly better than another: I just want it to upload files!

Anyone care to enlighten me?

FTP is deprecated. All of the boxes in my vicinity have SSH, so I can use tools such as WinSCP.

I’m on a Mac, and nothing is nearly as good as Cyberduck. The best part is that it supports double-clicking on a file to bring it into a text editor of your choice, and then once you save your copy, it immediately uploads it. It also supports SFTP to boot!

On windows, just the basic DOS command, and linux ditto the basic shell command. What more do you need really? All you gain from a GUI is a progress bar, but ‘hash’ marking is useful enough.

FireFTP extension for Firefox, anywhere.

On my linux machine, I don’t use a client, per se — Ubuntu Linux has built-in FTP support for the file manager.

On windows machines, I often use the ftp command in the DOS window. Fast and simple.

Transport on the Mac was wonderful, Now that I’m on a PC most of the time, I use Dreamweavers built in File Manager, and Explorer when I just need to put/get a quick file or two.

smartFTP
it’s the most similar to windows explorer (filezilla and ws_ftp are ugly and have some drag&drop issues)
doesn’t hang like IE does on some big files for me
it’s really not much different from cuteFTP
and the nag screen has never bothered me

We’ve used YummyFTP (dumb name, great program) for some time at work. It has great file management and integrates nicley with BBEdit, SubEtha Edit, TextWrangler, etc…

I have been a graphic designer for 25 years and a Mac user since the MacPlus back in 1988. Since I started using OSX I have been Cyberduck. I have used Fetch over the years but I find Cyberduck a wonderful program. Stable, easy to use and free.

Just my 2 cents worth.

On Windows I use WebDrive which I find to be super easy to use despite having to dish out a little dough.

It allows you to “map” and FTP server as though it’s a drive. All you have to do is save the file “locally” and it’s uploaded to your server for you.

On Mac I use Fetch. It’s alright but nothing special.

Total Commander has excellent FTP client + its the bast tool for file manipulation I’ve ever seen. For SFTP I use WinSCP (Norton Commander layout).

I’ve tried CuteFTP years ago, and had a difficult time trying to figure out the interface at first. My preference is WS_FTP Pro. It’s pretty straight foward in it’s approach.

I use CuteFtp at work but FileZilla is perfect for home use. Although CuteFtp is the better of the two.

I really only use FTP for downloading things, and then usually in a browser or with wget(1). I don’t remember the last time I actually fired up ftp(1) with the intent to upload. Then again, I don’t remember the last system I used which allowed non-anonymous FTP; it’s just too great a security risk.

I use IE, actually. I’ve used CuteFTP, BulletProof FTP, and some other ones, but really all I need to do is put file A on server B. It also helps me remember where IE is, incase I want to check for Windows updates.
