Unfortunate Caption

Posted by Chris Tingom on April 1, 2006 at 3:25 am.

I’m afraid to report that we are going to have to end our caption contests. We’ve received a number of cease and desist letters from lawyers because we used copyrighted images from movies.

BrainFuel will be shutting its doors on caption photos permanently. if you have any suggestions for ways around this problem or you would like to suggest an alternate Friday activity for BrainFuel please contact our promotions and education department chairperson. Thank you.

  • I think that if you just wait it out a day or so, things might blow over. If that doesn’t work, howabout Friday bake-offs? Or frog races?

Happy Apple Anniversary, boys! Enjoy the weekend.

  • OMF no ways!! thats terrible. :( Being a great fan, follower and imitator of the Caption Fridays, I feel your pain. They’re great fun.

But do they have to be movie scenes? There’s a lot of brilliant potential in political shots and general news photos… I’m sure with a bit of creativity you can make a plan?? Come on… :)

  • Yeah, the Comic Sans thing really hurts but I figured it’d be fun for 1 day. Maybe next year I’ll just make the site look ugly like is trendy now with eBay, Craigslist, and MySpace.

  • I’m no legal expert, but I’m surprised no one has mentioned fair use and parody:

It would seem that your use might be protected under these rights.
