Coffee site keeping it simple

Posted by Brian Shaler on August 2, 2009 at 8:27 pm.

The homepage for Ritual Roasters is pretty minimal. Two photos and a logo. I really liked how they juxtaposed the plant (possibly coffee leaf?) with the classic leaf latte art design as its roots. The two photos link to different pages on the site showing an emphasis on the origin and roasting of their coffee.

Very interesting image showing the logo redesigns between Pepsi and Coca-Cola.

(By the way, the latest Pepsi logo reminds me of this every time I see it…)

Update: Apparently there were more, a lot more.Chris

I just stumbled across this video that is a perfect example of a one-two punch of excellent video production coupled with a powerful message.

“Typewriter Key” Clips, Pushpins & Magnets

Staples has been running a campaign called “M by Staples” and I found one product particularly interesting:
“Typewriter Key” Clips, Pushpins & Magnets

'Typewriter Key' Clips, Pushpins & Magnets

As a fan of typography, I think these are great! I usually don’t get excited about office supplies, but it is more of a surprise to see this type of stuff coming from Staples.

Good Band Name

Posted by Brian Shaler on April 14, 2008 at 12:22 pm.

This is an interesting creative exercise: Come up with a “Good Band Name”

But not just ANY good band name. It needs to be funny and catchy. It should be paradoxical or ironic. A “first album” title is optional.

Examples:
Mark Keytool & the Design Premiums (Photoshop nerds should “get it”)
The Amish Truckers (First album could be “Horsepower” — via Kent)
Union Contracts (First album could be “1,000 Lbs of Paperwork” — via Kathy)
Wayne Wheat and the Flax Seeds (via Jeremy)

I saw this going on at Twemes.com. You can participate in this Twitter meme by including “#GoodBandName” in your update. If you don’t feel like following the latest Twitter trend, leave a comment here instead!

More Friday Fun

Posted by Brian Shaler on November 9, 2007 at 11:38 am.

In an effort to further reduce the productivity of Fridays (and thus allow it to become an official part of the weekend), I launched a new weekly game over on Twitter. The success of BrainFuel’s Caption Contest Fridays played a key role in motivating me to start TwitLibs.

Because Twitter communication is text-based, I needed a game that did not involve images. Based loosely on Mad Libs, the game involves one person sending Twitter a statement with a series of blanks (e.g. [I just __ my __]). The message is delivered to all of that person’s “followers” on the site. To play, they simply reply with the words they think makes the statement funniest (e.g. [@brianshaler "pooped", "pants"] or [@brianshaler "kicked", "dog"]).

Round 1 is already underway. The Twitter replies are in the comments.
