Services provided in an emergency

Posted by Chris Tingom on May 26, 2005 at 12:26 am.

Defining a business emergency is difficult. Usually when I’m asked by clients to provide services right away it is because of a lack of planning on their part. I’ve been a part of so many “emergencies” that I can’t really count how many.

While reading a message board this morning of some local sales pros, I ran across this service offering page. Now, if you take the time to read it you’ll see that the absolute minimum this company charges is $35,000 for a 10 hour day. Absolutely incredible. I wonder if anything like this would work in the web industry. What would a web dream team would look like in this case? Would there be a market for this?

Update: Oh, and if you want that team to work overnight it’s an extra $147,000. I’m gonna bet you can negotiate that though. Hehe.

Target Australia

Posted by Chris Tingom on May 23, 2005 at 9:08 am.

A few weeks ago I posted the Target web site on BrainFuel. Now, I just ran across the Target Australia site and the first thing I noticed was the different logotype. Frankly, I like it better. The US site is better focused on ecommerce though if you want my opinion.

Here’s a stunning photo. The lighting is just perfect. Amazing. He’s using some themes for JAlbum from this site. Check out these cool shots at a zoo. Man, I really need to go to the Phoenix Zoo. I haven’t been in years and it would be fun.

Are you suffering from Barrel Distortion? If not, maybe you should take your pictures from another angle. This article was pretty good: Six feet up is bad.

Two more fabulous photos.

Wow, check out this hawk picture. I just found this site. It looks like people review other peoples pictures and offer advice.

Internet2

I’ve been reading about the Internet2 project recently and wondered if any BrainFuel readers have used it? Supposedly it is so fast you can transfer an entire DVD in under a minute.

The cross-country backbone is 10 gigabits per second.

ActiveWidgets

Kent told me about this site called ActiveWidgets and they have a pretty cool data grid that is cool. It basically displays formatted data in a way that looks and acts like Excel. Might be useful someday.

Netscape 8.0 Released

Posted by Chris Tingom on at 11:45 am.

It’s a crowded market in the web browser world. Look at this: Netscape 8.0 was released on Thursday and it has tabbed browsing. I hear Internet Explorer will have tabbed browsing as well. Me? I’m going to keep using FireFox. Internet Explorer 7.0 would have to be really good for me to use it full time now that I’ve made the switch.

Here’s an interesting article about the upcoming Narnia movie and some of the story behind the movie production.

The hot new colors according to Jim. Pretty ugly.

Oh, and BrainFuel reader Ward Andrews has a cool blog I’ve been checking recently and posted a good observation about In-N-Out’s menu design. I must agree. The total thought process is about 2 seconds and that’s really nice.

I’m an official cabbage. You can be, too!

Iconnographer – Anybody use it? Looks great.

Where is the cheapest gas in town? A great combination of Google Maps with publicly provided data. If you’re in Phoenix then Phoenix Gas Prices is good, too. Probably the same data.

Google is playing around with personalization options and I’m curious to know what you think. You can add movies, weather, Wired news, Slashdot, and a host of other information pieces to your Google homepage. It helps if you have a Gmail account since then you can start right away (without registering).

Newspaper Design Blog shows jpgs of major newspapers around the world, every single day. That’s pretty neat. Plus they have some good stuff on Mt. St. Helens.
