Good to Great…

Good to Great
I think this book is better than E-Myth Revisited. Plus, if you think about it. Completely stands out as the exact opposite of E-Myth Revisited! Think about it for a second. E-Myth Revisited argues you can get anybody to do a task as long as you have the right systems in place to do that work…
Good to Great argues you need to get the right people on board your company or business idea FIRST. Of course, this book is about going from good to great and you have to be good first, whatever that means. (Link to Amazon about Good to Great)

This concludes the short book review for Monday March 28th. Thank you.

Questions, questions, questions

Posted by Chris Tingom on at 1:07 pm.

Thursday I’m having my photo taken for a magazine feature about yours truly.
Here’s the difficult choices I face:

#1: Do I dress casual or formal? What image do I want to present?

#2: They want me to bring a laptop. I have my choice of my Toshiba or a Powerbook. What to do. Heh. My image as a PC user could be going down the drain if I take a Mac. Oh my, this is difficult.

Use your noodle

I found the Noodle Golf site rather interesting. It’s quite well done. Two of the best things were the funky layout and the preloading animation. Probably one of the oddest integrations of a site I have seen in a while and it works so well.

Nike Apparel

I’ll be the first to admit that the Nike Golf web site is cool. But the coolness factor is at least 80% in the photography. So take it for what it’s worth. Be sure to see the Nike Apparel page (pictured below).

Taylor

I really like the navbar on the TaylorMade site. It’s built in Flash so when you roll over it the subnavigation elements roll out. Try it out.

I almost ran over the easter bunny

Posted by Chris Tingom on March 27, 2005 at 9:29 pm.

I almost ran over a rabbit tonight on a bike ride. It didn’t occur to me the irony in that it’s Easter Sunday (and the world is so obsessed with the Easter bunny). Heh. Did you know rabbits can run faster than a bike? They’re fast little buggers. I couldn’t catch him.

So I did a little bit of research about Easter (specifically the name and traditions over the years). I was wondering where this easter bunny came from and how he got to be so popular. There is a big article about different traditions that have sprung up over the years and here’s an interesting one from our friends in Norway:

In Norway, in addition to skiing in the mountains and painting eggs for decorating, it is tradition to solve murders at Easter. All the major television channels show crime and detective stories (such as Poirot), magazines print stories where the readers can try to figure out who did it, and many new books are published. Even the milk cartons change to have murder stories on their sides.

In the Czech Republic it gets even better:

In the Czech Republic, a tradition of whipping is carried out on Easter Monday. In the morning, males whip females with a special handmade whip called pomlázka. The pomlázka consists of eight, twelve or even twenty-four withies (willow rods) and is usually from half a meter to two meters long and decorated with coloured ribbons at the end.

It goes on:

The females can get revenge in the afternoon when they can pour a bucket of cold water on any male. The habit slightly varies across the Czech Republic.

Wow. I thought Resurrection day was overly commercialized in the U.S. I suppose it’s that way all over though.

Besides these three image gallery systems, what are some of the best web based photo gallery systems you’ve seen (that can be installed on your own server)?

Restaurants and Coffee

Posted by Chris Tingom on at 12:04 am.

I have installed WordPress 1.5 on ArizonaReviews.com and formally launched my new site Arizona Coffee.

The first site is my general restaurant review web site and the second site is intended to be more of a place to post about coffee shops, wireless internet in coffee shops, and of course, anything about coffee. I still need to integrate some visual improvements and my own logos, however so far so good. If you’re at all interested in either topic, be sure to bookmark and visit often. Now if I could only find some time to write some decent reviews.
