MetLife

I wonder how much MetLife pays in licensing each year for the Snoopy character. It must be a serious amount of moolah. More than you can count on one hand I suppose. What do I like about their site besides the flying monkeys and chipmunks? Oh, um, I like the clear easy to read navigation. Yup.

Candy

What color would you get? I’d get either Candy Apple, Techno, or Alpine. Pretty cool. ColorWare will paint your iMac, iPod, or Powerbook candy colors. Fun! - Thanks to Ben for this one.

Spin it however you want

Posted by Chris Tingom on October 11, 2004 at 11:09 am.

I missed the Presidential debate #2 and I saw some of the post-debate spin on TV. As I watched the political pundits talk I found it engaging to watch the crowd in the background try to hold signs up in the cameras view. They would all fight to get their sign in the right spot for maximum visibility.

There were the typical signs for Bush and Kerry, however what I really liked were the homemade signs. One sign said simply “I Love Signs.” Gotta love someone with a sense of humor. Haha.

El Paso was great. I took about 500 photos. Here are some of the better shots. A couple are from New Mexico.

Actually took this in a small town in New Mexico, the brickwork is from a building that is the oldest standing brick building in New Mexico.

Green Valley, AZ. South of Tucson.

Cool building in New Mexico. Billy the Kid was tried and sentenced to a hanging here. He never actually was hung however as he shot all of the guards and escaped. I think, not sure, this could’ve been an early capital building for Arizona and New Mexico.

Pottery in El Paso, TX.

A restaurant we enjoyed. They had the BEST beef brisket. Mmmm!

From the pottery store in El Paso.

FlashCard reader

Posted by Chris Tingom on October 9, 2004 at 5:14 am.

It’s about time I upgrade to a USB 2.0 Flash reader and I wanted to see if anyone could recommend a decent one. I know of plenty that cost about $20 and I want to spend about $10 (because I realize there are some for that price and I cannot tell a difference).

Enormicon
across this web site today and just had to share it… Is it a real service that will generate an effective identity for your company? Or is it a clever example making fun of today’s branding attempts? Check it Out

Hooray Horhay’s

Posted by Chris Tingom on October 6, 2004 at 4:02 am.

I ran across the Horhay’s Java site the other day and just had to post it. It looks like a small coffee shop in Wisconsin (great place to go by the way) that also does ecommerce. Anyone have a clue what ecommerce engine they’re using?

So the thing I liked the most was the big bold colors and clean site style. It’s awesome to see because 99% of the coffee shop web sites I’ve ever seen have been miserable 2 page sites.

Page Rank Search and Googlebar in FireFox

Posted by Chris Tingom on October 5, 2004 at 3:42 am.

I’m trying to get a site up to a higher Page Rank (and a PR of 8 or 9 would be awesome). PRSearch.net is a site I discovered that lets me search for a site and see the PR plus the number of sites that link to it.

I’ll tell ya, a high PR is hard to achieve. Some sites have an inherent advantage, for example, Internet.com has a PR 9, and by linking to it I’m helping it out, they have a high PR because they’re also a useful site. I believe their’s no trick to it if you want true PR. You have to get your brain in gear and come up with a web site that will be super-popular. Sites like Internet.com can make $50,000 + a month selling links. Maybe even more.

In other Page Rank news, PRGoogleBar is quite interesting. It’s finally enabled me to make the switch from IE to FireFox. I can have a better, faster browser at the same time and use the features of the Google Bar. I wonder when Google will make a browser add in for FireFox.

El Paso

Posted by Chris Tingom on October 4, 2004 at 8:12 pm.

I’m going to El Paso this weekend and was wondering if anyone can recommend some places to go to get free wireless internet? Coffee shops to hit? I’ll be near the airport most of the time. It’s not my first time in El Paso however first time with a laptop with a wireless card.

Update: The El Paso Marriott has free wireless throughout the hotel. The signal is highest in the lobby.
