PHP Calendar System

Posted by Chris Tingom on August 17, 2004 at 9:43 pm.

Can anybody recommend a PHP Calendar system? We need a good web based calendar that members of an organization can view to see current events. Thanks!

Update: We found Invision Power Board ($200) which looks excellent. It’s a message board with calendar functionality built-in.

ASAP Utilities (for Excel)

I found a neat little utility today for Excel (Windows only). It’s called ASAP Utilities and out of the box the free software lets you merge table cells and perform hundreds of other little functions that Microsoft forgot.

Athens

Posted by Chris Tingom on August 12, 2004 at 7:47 am.

The Athens 2004 Summer Olympics begin today starting with the opening ceremony. I thought it might be a perfect occasion to talk about the Athens web site. Looks to me like they’re really using some dynamic stuff this year, and focusing on providing content.

One thing I noticed missing immediately was the corporate sponsors. Where’s the big blue IBM logo? Or maybe Canon or one of the accounting firms. All missing.

A friend of mine says you can download PearPC and actually install Apple’s OSX on a PC and it works! Sweet, I’m going to try it tomorrow.

Radio

Jim Tazarek has a great little web site where he talkes about the radio industry. Apparently he’s famous in the radio industry and offers good advice on his web site, advice that is applicable to any industry.

Wink and a Flash

Posted by Chris Tingom on August 7, 2004 at 3:15 pm.

The other day I made some prints at Kinkos on their photo print station. I got sick of messing with our HP Designjet 10ps, maybe we’ll get it to work again later this summer. The results were so good now I want to print more of my photos.

So now I’m wanting to get more of my digital photos printed, and I’m looking at WinkFlash and thinking it’s a great deal. What’s the best place to order photos? How do I know each place has high quality? What is the difference from one place to another? Interestingly, WinkFlash is even offering free shipping this summer with no minimum, that’s awesome.

My friend Dan just told me about White House Custom Colour which is a photo lab that does only digital output. The ordering process is less for consumers and more for people who want the ultimate in control. They give you an FTP address to send photos to. Prices are also very good.

BASE Videos (Superman!)

Totally off topic for the weekend, compliments of Ben who found this: BASE Videos – these people jump off mountains and skyscrapers and put these capes on and fly a long ways before they open their chute. You’ve got to watch the videos to believe it. Very cool stuff.

Event registration

Posted by Chris Tingom on at 6:43 am.

You’ve seen Evite, now imagine if we wanted to make a system like that for event registration for one of our clients monthly seminars. That’s what we want to do, except we need to capture more details about the people who are registering, and send them reminder emails automatically at specified dates, and have the functionality to print out lists of who is attending.

We’re thinking about building this ourselves and figured it would be worth asking if anybody has ever heard of something like what we need. If you have, please let us know.

Some systems I found: iVite (an obvious ripoff of Evite), and Cvent.
