Mpeg editor?

Posted by Chris Tingom on July 27, 2004 at 4:35 pm.

Hi folks, I need a quick simple program that can be used to edit an mpeg file. Essentially I don’t need a lot of features, just the ability to trim and then export (ideally to WMV). Any suggestions?? Free is best in this case.

Update: I ended up using the Windows Media Encoder provided by Microsoft. I didn’t know it was so cool. Essentially I took the mpg and brought it into the video and made a VHS quality video. Assuming our project goes live on schedule I’ll post a link to the video. I’m still interested in good recommendations for free video editors. Stuff I can really cut end move video around with. Thanks.

Levi’s USA

I thought the navigation bar on the Levi’s web site was cool. It’s a great way to use Flash in a navigation menu. Essentially they place a large number of links within a tight area. Try it out at Levi’s web site.

Harley-Davidson

Posted by Chris Tingom on at 4:01 am.

It has been two-years since I posted about the Harley-Davidson web site, and so I felt justified in featuring it once again. I don’t ride a bike however I have a lot of respect for H-D. They’ve managed to create a sort of cult-like business where their customers absolutely love their product and customize and tweak them to death.

But I digress.

I want to talk about the H-D web site, which is really cool. It has not changed much over the years except to add much more content and the ability to customize a bike online.

It’s still one of the best examples of a corporation really spending time and money on great design and functionality.

I need a ASP “Remind Me By Email” script

Posted by Chris Tingom on July 25, 2004 at 5:38 pm.

We’re building a web site for a local bakery and they want to let their customers create “reminders” for themselves. Essentially they want people to choose a few specific dates (such as Anniversary, or Birthday) and they’d get an email 2-weeks in advance of that date reminding them that they should place an order.

Can anybody recommend something like this? I’ve found a few scripts already. One is called RemindMe and the other is MyAgenda v2. Except that this one appears to be PHP based. The other choice is to build from scratch since it’s essentially a simple script, but I wanted to see what options I had. Thanks folks!

One thing I do know: It needs to run on a Windows server.

Update: We ended up building our own script for the client in .NET. Check it out: Remind Me By Email Script.

Store Locator script

Posted by Chris Tingom on July 23, 2004 at 11:03 pm.

I need recommendations for a sort of franchise locator script. The kind where people enter a zip code or choose a state and get a listing of locations or stores nearby.

Any recommendations? Let me know. My needs call for a Windows ASP/.NET script. I’ve been looking on HotScripts and found one called Easy To Find Us however it’s $250 and so I want to know if this is the best choice or if you folks know of anything better?

General Electric’s new branding

Posted by Chris Tingom on July 22, 2004 at 11:25 am.

GE has introduced a revised logo and web site. The most stunning aspect of this new home page is that they’ve highlighted a single business and added a nice graphical element with headline. Its bigger than even the logo! I think this is a very cool use of the header and wouldn’t be surprised to see similar ideas pop up in sites over the summer.

At the same time the new brand web site is cool to see. I won’t go in to specifics about the branding and logo modifications except to say the most significant element appears to be they’ve chosen a unique color for each GE company. That’s a neat idea. David Weinberger posted at Speak Up and has provided excellent analysis about this very topic. So go there for details.

Don’t miss downloading the new GE Inspira logo (brand new).

Flash Animation titled “Olympics”

Posted by Chris Tingom on July 21, 2004 at 4:09 pm.

Bruno Bozzetto of Italy (I think) made some wonderful little Flash pieces which you absolutely must check out. He has an animation style that is quick yet witty and will for sure make you laugh.

Check out “Olympics.”
